Assignment on Digital Literacy

In this article by Ilene R. Berson and Michael J. Berson, they emphasize the importance and effects of digital literacy in that this e-generation is advancing in. The youth of today find themselves spending most of their free time on cyberspace and in some cases begin to lose some real life skills (such as critical thinking) when too immersed in the digital world. The writers make a point that by losing touch with reality and paying more respect to their computers, they begin to lose a grasp of their responsibilities and even common courtesy which the real world would teach them.
The purpose of this article is to inform youth and even their parents that there is a necessary balance between digital literacy and having a social, real life in order to grow intellectually. Even if the world is advancing digitally at a fast rate, it does not call for the nation to place children in front of computers from day one. The skills of everyday lives such as manners and other practical skills are still very much needed in businesses as well as book smarts.
